Do you wake up in the morning feeling stiff and sluggish like Yoda? The last thing you want to do is stretch but believe it or not this is exactly what you should do to energize your body and limber up the ol’ muscles.
There are a few simple yoga stretches that will make a huge difference in how you feel throughout the day. You really gotta try it to see what we’re talking about. And the best part is you can do a couple before you even get out of bed and then just roll out and do the others. Oh, and remember to breathe deeply.
- Windshield Wiper stretch (in bed)
- Pull knees into your chest – 1 leg at a time or both at once (in bed)
- Downward Dog
- Triangle pose
- Warrior pose
- Dancer pose
- Standing forward bend
- Table Top pose followed by Cat/Cow stretches
- Child’s pose
If needed, there are tons of sites giving exact details on how to do these poses/stretches correctly. And only do what makes sense without pain or causing injury. The goal here is to have you craving the feeling you get when you are finished stretching. Set your alarm clock tomorrow to get up 15 mins earlier. That will give you time to get through these yoga stretches and get you feeling energized for the day. Pick out a few poses to start and as you hold each pose breath slowly in and out releasing all the tension and tightness in your muscles. Enjoy!
