How to Host a Blind Wine Tasting Party

Sherpa Sense:

Being on the edges of winter, it feels good to hunker down and hold up in our homes. A great idea for a get together with friends is to host a Blind Wine Tasting party.

Let’s Yak:

What exactly is a blind wine tasting?  Well, let me tell ya.

* It is gathering 4 or 5 bottles of the same varietal of wine from different vineyards. These don’t have to be expensive.  Check out Trader Joes or any discount grocery store. Just for fun you might throw in one more expensive bottle. So for example you would buy different 5 bottles of Merlot.  (Think Two Buck Chuck if you are worried about the cost.)

* Then when party night rolls around you would put each of these bottles into a brown paper bag and number them 1 through 5. Starting with the first bottle, pour each of your guests an ounce of wine. Have each one swirl, sniff and sip. Take at least a few sips as the taste often changes from the first sip.  Write down thoughts on this bottle. Then move on to each of the next bottles.

* Have everyone cast a vote on which bottle they like the best  It is fun to see what is the favorite Many times it is the cheapest wine bought.  Ha!

Whenever you serve an adult beverage, we highly suggest serving food with it.  It is never a good idea to drink on an empty stomach as it is way too messy to clean up afterwards. So have each guest bring an appetizer of some sort to go with your wine tasting.  Cheese, crackers, chocolate, fruits, etc. are some ideas of wine pairings. But really, even pizza is a great pairing.

Take A Hike:

Host a Blind Wine Taste party this Friday night. Invite your friends and have them bring an appetizer. Buy your 5 bottles of the same varietal wine. Have fun!

Yakety Yak:

So many of our friends seem to have the notion that they only drink this or they only drink that.  A Blind Wine Tasting can easily blow that assumption out of the wine keg.  #winenotwhine

And of course, always be responsible when drinking and have a designated driver if you need.

Peak Lookout:

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so remember Gratitude, It’s A Choice.
